Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to the questions that are most commonly asked about custom foot orthotics and your appointments. Should you have additional questions please feel free to contact us.

Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes, please! All patients are seen by appointment only, due to the mobile nature of the business. Feel free to call us (807) 708-8998, drop us an email: bookings@instepthunderbay.ca or try our convenient online appointment book today.

Do I need a doctor's referral?
Referrals are not necessary for a pedorthic assessment, however we do require a prescription (with specific diagnosis) from a physician, chiropodist, podiatrist or orthopaedic surgeon in order to proceed with making custom orthotics and custom footwear.

What do I bring to my appointment?
For your first appointment or assessment, we ask that you bring the following:
  1. A prescription from your doctor, if you have one.
  2. Several pairs of footwear with you (work, casual, sports, house shoes; any that you wear often) so that we can look at the wear patterns, fit, support and type of shoe.
  3. Wear socks that can be removed, and shorts or pants that can be rolled up to the knee.
Do you do home visits for shoe fittings or compression stockings?
Home shoe fittings and home compression stocking fittings are provided only in conjunction with an orthotic assessment or fitting.

What do I do if the website won't let me book an appointment for the time I'd like?
Please email info@instepthunderbay.ca with the appointment time you would like, or call 807-708-8998.
If you do book online, you should receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If you do not, please contact us by phone.

Can I just drop in to the office to buy shoes or compression stockings?
I'm afraid not! Due to the mobile nature of the business, we cannot guarantee that we will be in the office unless you have an appointment booked. We would like to make sure that clients receive the best care possible, so it is best to book an appointment so that we can make sure we are available for you at a time that works for you.
